  • October 28-29, 2011. Sugar Creek Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. The Vibrant Dance of Faith and Science : the Theology Edition. Creation: Biblical Options — A Gracious Dialogue. Sponsored by: Hill Country Institute for Contemporary Christianity.
Speakers: Todd Beall, Craig Blaising, Walter Kaiser, John Mark Reynolds, Bruce Walkte, and John Walton.
"In the second event of the Initiative, or what we are calling the "Theology Edition", we seek to enhance awareness and harmony in the Church by hearing from orthodox Christian theologians, but with a spectrum of views on origins and other science-related issues. Such a dialogue in itself suggests that a range of Biblical interpretations is consistent with the essential core Christian doctrines."
  • September 30-October 1, 2011. Chattanooga Conference Center, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Reading Genesis 1-2: An Evangelical Conversation. Bryan Institute Symposium. Sponsored by the Bryan Institute in conjunction with the division of Christian Studies (Bryan College).
Speakers: Dr. Richard Averbeck (Trinity Evangelical Divinity School), Dr. Todd Beall (Capital Bible Seminary), Dr. John "Jack" Collins (Covenant Theological Seminary), Dr. Tremper Longman III (Westmont College), and Dr. John Walton (Wheaton College). [Dr. Beall is the only young earth creationist.]
"Current scholarly evangelical work on the Old Testament presents challenges to the traditional reading of Genesis 1-2. Rather than assuming that Genesis presents a historical account of God creating man from the dust of the earth, that Adam was the common ancestor of all humans, and that human creation occurred in the relatively recent past, a newer consensual reading suggests acceptance of long ages of the earth and Darwinian evolution alongside a belief in the trustworthiness of Scripture."

"Based on our discussions, we affirm that there are several options that can achieve this synthesis, including some which involve a historical couple, Adam and Eve, and that embrace the compelling conclusions that the earth is more than four billion years old and that all species on this planet are historically related through the process of evolution."
  • October 26-28, 2010. Grace Covenant Church, Austin, Texas. The Vibrant Dance of Faith and Science. How Science Supports Christianity and Christianity Explains Science. Sponsored by: Hill Country Institute for Contemporary Christianity.

"Understanding the interaction between science and faith is vital for the empowering of the Christian church to hold the Gospel out to our society with fearless, Christ-honoring integrity. We hope to equip leaders in the church to influence – even define – the terms of discussion between science and faith. The historic and oft used “two books” analogy of God’s revelation is helpful here; the “book” of nature and the “book” of the Bible. Since both “books” are from the Triune God, the information revealed in these “two books” will enhance our understanding of both, and ultimately will be acknowledged as consistent, though they may seem partially incongruent at times because of human limitations and misconceptions."
